It’s that time of year again, The Open Championships commence this Sunday 25th to 31st of July and will be held at Ultimate Indoor Sports Silverwater NSW. Divisions competing are Open Men, Open Women, 21 and under Men and the Lord Taverners.

We wish our representatives all the very best and hope to see them bring home some hardware. Our already successful Open Mens team this year has a new look with the addition of a few new faces as they did last year which proved to be a winning combination. We are quietly confident this team will get the job done once again.

I am told there may be Cricket TV again as there was in Frankston. I will place a link if it becomes available.  You may want to keep an eye on your internet plan though, it does drain a few gig.

Masters National Titles to be held in Frankston Victoria

2010 Australian Masters Championships

30th May to 5th June 2010

TRAINING WILL COMMENCE AT BALLAJURA ON FEB THE 7th 9.30 AM

 Divisions: Over 30 Women, Over 30 Men, Over 35 Men, Over 40 Men, Over 45 Men

Bouncer Sports Centre requires Indoor Cricket Umpires to work either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday nights. Additional nights may be required to cover current staff.

Previous experience would be ideal but not necessary. Knowledge of the game would be essential.

This event kicks off  this Sunday 26th July to 1st of Aug and is being held at Cairns Indoor Sports, 164 Mayers St North Cairns Qld.

After a very shaky start recruiting ,we have managed to send teams filling all age groups and ladies. It has been an outstanding effort put in by all to make this happen.  We wish our representatives all the very best and hope to here some good results come through.

A great performance by all WA sides at the open 2009 Nationals both the 21’s and Lord Taverners were very competitive and the open men once again bringing back the National open mens shield.This year we had six new players in the open men so that’s eleven different players over the last two years, amazing for WA as we still made the GF each year with such a turnover of players.

After losing the first two games we went on to win the next six games straight lost the major semi but won the prelim to give us the right to play Qld in the Grand Final. After a very difficult decision in selecting the final side we went on to humiliate Qld 145 - 83 .    Qld won the toss and elected to bat but we had their score after the first two pair as we were 86 after two.

Amazingly the Cricket Aust page next day read congratulations to Qld on winning the National Titles obviously in their minds WA didn’t count but we have now been in the last four grand finals winning two making us the most successful team over the last four years, perhaps this is why we don’t get a mention on the Australian Web Site funny that. This years SUCCESSFUL team was Nick deGRYS Capt. David Hankin, Ty Hopes, Danny McLauchlan,Jarrod Daniells, Lee Irwin, Matt Stiller, Chris Leatherday, Jesse Barron, Sam Barnes-Siddal, Scott Brown,  Coach Rod Chilcott Ass Coach Rod Jenkins

Congratulations to all a superb effort and a great team and thanks to Di and Halz our two trainers who worked tirelessly all week keeping the boys on the court

One week to go and the open boys are off again to try and bring back another shield our record is very good over the last 3 years winning one and runner up in the other two

This years team has 6 new additions from last year although the master of spin Ty shane Hopes did tour the previous year this years team is Nick deGrys Capt

It is with much regret that at this stage WA will not be sending any Masters teams to Cains for the 2009 Championships due to the prohibitive cost factors getting teams to travel long distances every year has become a real financial burden as it is usually the same players every year and with the economy the way it is at the moment it has become almost impossible for WA to travel and compete I certainly hope that the downturn in the economy has not sounded the death knell for our Masters teams .
